Choose any ONE (and only ONE) of the topics where to write the essay, and please read the instructions on page 3 cautiously before you begin.

1 . Consider this situation:

Alf and Bob hired a motel room. The space was hired under Alf's name, and Alf purchased the 1st day's hire; the second day's rent was paid by Bob, as well as the third day's rent has not been paid. The motel director, finding the presence of his guests suspicious (long hair, colorful clothing, general air flow of disreputability), informed the authorities that this individual suspected all of them of being drug-users. Give reasons behind your answer.

2 . Consider this to be situation:

Charlie is drowning in a swimming-pool. Standing around him, not really doing anything to rescue him, are the pursuing persons, all whom will be strong swimmers: (i) Derek, who is the lifeguard working, (ii) Edwin, who is Charlie's twin close friend, (iii) Frederick, who is a great off-duty cop, (iv) Gavin, who had came across Charlie's untied shoelaces, and, in looking to keep him self from slipping, accidentally pressed Charlie in to the pool; and, (v) Harvey, a man who long meant to kill Charlie, who were passing by pool if he saw Charlie drowning, and stopped to watch.

The question declines into two parts. Answer both of them.

a) Which usually of these five witnesses to Charlie's death should be placed criminally responsible for failing to rescue Steve and which of them should not? Present reasons to rationalize your solution. b) Would it make any difference on your answer in the event Charlie took place to a paraplegic confined to a wheelchair?
