ITC was incorporated about August twenty-four, 1910 under the name of 'Imperial Tobacco Organization of India Limited'. Its beginnings had been humble. A leased office on Radha Bazar Isle, Kolkata, was the centre of the Company's existence. The Company celebrated its sixteenth birthday in August twenty four, 1926, by purchasing the plot of land situated at 37, Chowringhee, (now renamed J. T. Nehru Road) Kolkata, pertaining to the quantity of Rs 310, 500. This decision of the Firm was historical in more techniques than one. It was to mark the start of a long and eventful voyage into India's future.
